Sea fishing:

The whole of Finnmark’s coast provides good opportunities for sports fishing in the sea, which is free of charge. Foreigners are not permitted to sell their catch.

Fishing in lakes and rivers:

The following rules apply to non-Norwegians. People who live permanently outside Norway are entitled to fish in the county on a five-km zone on both sides of a highway provided they have paid a fishing fee.. To practice fishing in inland waters on state-owned land a person between 18-67 years must buy a Statskog fishing licence for inland waters. Such a permit can be bought in advance through the internet on page www.inatur.nofiskeravgift (fiskeravgift). The pages include more detailed information in Norwegian, Finnish, English and German. You can also get the permit by contacting the tourist information of the municipality concerned as the permit can also be bought at a post office.

For rivers with salmon populations persons over 16 need to pay a fishing insurance licence of 180 NOK This licence is also obtainable at the above address. In addition, you have to buy a local fishing permit for a boat, often available from near-by service stations or water protection associations. More information available from the tourist information of the municipalities.

Its advisable to make an early reservation as the most popular salmon rivers have a waiting list of several weeks.

Welcome to try your luck in the best fishing waters in the world – in Finnmark.
