Lake Päijänne and the Päijänne National Park
Almost the entire national park is located within the borders of Padasjoki municipality. Apart from setting out on a boat of your own, the National Park can be reached from Padasjoki Harbour on the cruise boat m/s Elbatar or on a rented canoe. The harbor is also the starting point of the Päijänne-Ilves hiking route leading to the large hiking area of Evo. In the second half of July, during the Päijänne Regatta, the largest sailing boat event in the lake waters of Finland, the harbor of Padasjoki and the entire Lake Päijänne become the scene of frenzied activity. In alternating years the departure of the race takes place at Padasjoki or at Säynätsalo near Jyväskylä. Apart fom Päijänne Padasjoki has 300 lakes, which makes Padasjoki a very popular holiday destination with a large supply of rentable cabins and villas available.
