Pyhtää offers a seaside holiday with the possibility to make trips to the beautiful islands of the archipelago, e.g. Kaunissaari island, the best known among them. During the summer there is regular boat traffic to Kaunissaari from the quay at the centre of Pyhtää. At first, the boat route runs along the river Kymijoki and along the route there are the manually operated Struka dam and lock gates. Boat traffic to Kaunissaari is also operated from Sapokka in Kotka.
In the Valkmusa National Park visitors may acquaint themselves with the mire habitat of the park which is unique in southern Finland in its rich variety. A 2.5-km-long duck trail circulates the area. The greystone St Henry's Church dating from 1460 serves as evidence of the long history of Pyhtää. The original mediaeval structure of the church has been well preserved. A short way off the church stands the former Stockfors pulp mill compound with a picturesque packing museum.
