Founded in 1785, the island town of Kaskinen is the smallest town in Finland. The town boasts a well-preserved uniform milieu of wooden houses. The old idyllic Kalaranta fishing harbour and the Bladh House dating from 1788 tell about the town's age-old sources of livelihood: fishing and seafaring play an important role here. Present-day sources of living include chemical and mechanical wood refining as well as metal industries.
