Malax (pop. 5600) is a bilingual island municipality 25 kilometres south of Vaasa. The vicinity of Vaasa brings out the stark contrast between city and country. Malax is marked by peace, the beautiful natural environment, the archipelago as well as harmony and cooperation between the inhabitants.
You can start your day at the Brinken home museum consisting of twenty buildings and a flower garden. Next you can visit the Boat Museum of the Kvarken area which has the largest collection of boats in Finland. Stop for a lunch break at Åminne Folk Park and enjoy a meal on the large verandah of the summer restaurant with a superb view of the sea.
You can continue your trip southwards and board a ferry to charming Bergö island. A part of the archipelago belongs to the Kvarken Archipelago featuring on the Unesco World Heritage List. Enjoy the beautiful scenery on horseback or hike along the nature trail of Bergö. On your way back you can stop at Petalax where evening events are arranged at the home museum or Arstugården (theme evenings and communal singing).
For art lovers there are many interesting destinations such as Knösgården, Gallery Kultti, Gallery Artox and Art workshop Malakta.
