Saarijärvi is a town of 10 000 inhabitants in Central Finland, about 65 km from Jyväskylä in the direction of Kokkola. Saarijärvi has a large variety of targets well worth visiting, either from a cultural point of view or because of their great natural beauty. The accommodation facilities range from holiday cabins to a spa hotel, the activities offered range from rapid shooting to crosscountry skiing and slalom. There are also good shopping possibilities.
CULTURE
• Saarijärvi Museum, high quality exhibitions throughout the year.
• Stone Age Village (Kivikauden kylä), the restoration of a 5000-year old village and an exhibition of its prehistory at the archeological site. An interesting target for the whole family. Open in summer months, at other times by appointment.
• Runeberg Exhibition and Gentry House Museum, a home museum with interior decoration displaying the life of an upper-class family at the beginning of the 19th century. The building houses the study of J.L.Runeberg, national poet of Finland, and an exhibition displaying the production of the poet. Open in summer and by appointment.
HIKING, FISHING, CROSSCOUNTRY SKIING AND SLALOM

• Kulha hill and Syväoja ravine
• Saarijärvi white-water rapids route starts in Kyyjärvi and ends in Saarijärvi (75 km (ca 46 miles), 22 rapids). Canoes available. Fishing. A seven-lake canoeing route, with a chargeable route map..
• Fishing village, a pleasant spot for rainbow trout fishing, smoking services. Free entry.
• VEIJARI Fun Park. A popular family destination with Finnish and tropical fish, birds, water animals, domestic animals. Nature-related activities in a beautiful park-like environment.
• Paavonrinteet slalom skiing centre with five slopes and ski rental, Ski Bistro. A choice of skiing tracks (1- 15 km) for crosscountry skiers. Hiking and jogging in summer.
• The swimming hall / gym centre Aarresaari - closed in summer.
