Welcome to Nykarleby, a little town at its best an idyllic small town at the mouth of the Lapuanjoki River. The town was established in 1620 by the Swedish King Gustavus Adolphus to promote the trade of the region. Uusikaarlepyy is also the hometown of the writer Zacharias Topelius, popularly called the “fairy-tale uncle of Finland”. That is why the town bears the nickname “fairy-tale town”. The town offers the whole family a lot to see and to experience ranging from the idyllic old town milieu to the beautiful surrounding countryside and the archipelago.
