Kuopio is a cheerful summer town by Lake Kallavesi in the heart of Lakeland Finland. Puijo hill with its observation tower, the passenger harbour with its traditional inland passenger boats, the famous colourful Market Square, the unique Orthodox Church Museum of Finland and Pikku-Pietari Market Alley - are some of the enjoyable experiences awaiting visitors to Kuopio.

Kuopio is also a rewarding holiday target for winter tourists. There is always plenty of snow and ice for activities such as skating, skiing, slalom, snowmobiling and snowshoeing. Puijo Christmas Hill and the home of Santa Claus at Jätkänkämppä in Rauhalahti are some of the specialties of Christmas time. Througout the year traditional evenings are celebrated by going to the smoke sauna and eating a traditional local gourmet meal.

The most important annual events include Finland Ice Marathon in February, Ski jumping World Cup in March, Kuopio Tanssii ja Soi Festival in June, Kuopio Wine Festival and Kuopio Rockcock in July, Kuopio Triathlon in August and Kuopio Festivals, a series of events in the autumn
.

Kuopio offers accommodation ranging from high-standard hotels, apartment hotels and camping site cabins, to more economical hostels and guest houses. At Rauhalahti Holiday Centre, Finland’s first five-star camping site, there are fully-equipped holiday homes meant for year-round use.

Welcome to Kuopio !
