Puolanka

Puolanka is an active municipality of 3300 inhabitants in the province of Kainuu around the middle point of continental Finland. Puolanka is well known as a location for film making, for its natural environment and wild scenery.
There is plenty see and experience in Puolanka. Its attractions include the Hepoköngäs waterfall, the skiing centre Paljakka with its slopes and network of skiing tracks. Puolakka provides good fishing and hunting possibilities and fine hill scenery. It has provided a location for several films, for example the children’s movie Rölli and the Forest Spirit and for the war movie Rukajärven tie.
Places to see
Hepoköngäs Waterfall, one of the biggest wild running waterfalls in Finland, falls from a height of 24 metres down to Heinijoki river.
Paljakka Strict Nature Reserve with its hiking trails and natural formations. The snowy crosscountry skiing tracks and slalom slopes (tai downhill slopes)of Paljakka. Thirteen slopes the longest of which is 1340 metres.
A well attended network of crosscountry skiing tracks, early snowfall and a snowmobiling paradise provide enjoyment when there is now snow elsewhere.
Accomodation and guided excursions are provided by expert local entrepreneurs. Paljakka also has a prize-winning caravan site with services.
