True Fell Lapland

The municipality of Enontekiö is located in the arm of the Maiden of Finland. The only Finnish fells reaching the height of 1000 meters, the best known of which are Halti Fell and Saana Fell, are found in Enontekiö. The area of great fells has the best waters in Finland for catching grayling and arctic char.

In summer the fells can be explored on foot, by canoe or on an all-terrain bike. We recommend you to start your arctic nature experience at the Fell-Lapland nature centre Skierri in Hetta or at the visitor centre in Kilpisjärvi, which is the gateway to the great fells of the Käsivarsi area. Several hiking trails pass through Enontekiö, some of the most popular are the Hetta-Pallas hiking trail and the Nordkalotten trail passing through Norway, Finland and Sweden. In the area around Hetta and in the vicinity of Kilpisjärvi village there are numerous trails of different lengths which are well suited for one-day hikes.

Enontekiö has the longest skiing season in Finland. There is a machine-maintained network of skiing tracks which is more than 200 kilometres long . The Hetta Ski Resort provides fun for the whole family: sled-riding, snowboarding, snowshoeing and skiing. In Kilpisjärvi, the spring sun shines warmly on outdoor enthusiasts who engage in skiing or ice-fishing. True Fell Lapland provides genuine nature and culture experiences all year round.
