The town of Haapajärvi, a rural centre with approx. 8000 inhabitants, is located in the middle of Finland. The town has an active and versatile industrial life. Several business enterprises receive a significant part of their turnover from export trade and the products of many companies are well known all over Finland. The Haapajärvi region as well as the southern part of the Oulu province provide good educational possibilities. The Central Ostrobothnia Polytechnic's department of Business runs a unit in Haapajärvi. Secondary education is provided by the Upper Secondary School as well as by the Business, Agriculture and Forestry sections of Haapajärvi Vocational Institute.
In Haapajärvi the plains of Ostrobothnia meet the hills of Central Finland. The landscape is marked by a strong agriculture and the peace of the countryside which is always near at hand provides a good setting for people to live.
