Kaustinen is famous for its folk music. It is a rural municipality where old traditions and dynamic development coexist in harmony. A good example of this is Haitekki, the high technology house. Tens of thousands of people gather in Kaustinen in July to see and hear the performances and to feel the distinctive atmosphere of the Kaustinen Folk Music Festival.

The Folk Arts Centre is an impressive architectonic monument. It is also a concert and conference centre with a variety of facilities such as catering service. It is also a popular place to visit as well as a landmark housing the museum of Finnish folk music instruments, 020 72 911, www.kaustinen.net

The Centre of Folk Medicine pulls down barriers between natural healing and medical science. Traditional healing includes herb and formicary baths, cupping, massage, and the most popular of all, setting of sprained arms and feet. Healing skills are usually learnt from old healers, passing the tradition from generation to generation. +358 (0)6 865 0200, www.kansanlaakintakeskus.com
