The development of Salla into a major holiday resort has been a natural process. The Sallatunturi Holiday Centre, Sallan Poropuisto reindeer farm, Oulanka National Park, the Tuntsa wilderness area, the Vilman Kaira wilderness area as well as the vicinity of the Russian border reflect the great variety and vitality of Lapland’s nature, landscape, history and services. Owing to its climate the four seasons in Salla are sharply distinct. The frontier and customs station of Salla will reopen the ancient Barents trading route which used to pass through Salla to the White Sea.
