Ylivieska is a bustling town of 14000 inhabitants in the southern part of Oulu Province. The surrounding market area of Ylivieska covers 90 000 inhabitants and the town has become a real centre of commerce and services attracting people from long distances. Apart from doing shopping they come for leisure activities, such as going to a concert at Ylivieska Hall, widely known for its superb acoustics. For sportive activities the municipal sport park provides excellent facilities. Other attractions include Puuhkala Museum with its unique collection of milk cans of more than 700 specimens, the second oldest steel and concrete bridge of Finland and the wooden church of Ylivieska. The summer café of Helaala Mill in the town centre provides an opportunity to relax listening to the murmur of Kalajoki River and admire the beautiful river landscape.
